Across the Universe

A love out of time. A spaceship built of secrets and murder.
(Goodreads)

My Thoughts:

I don't normally like science fiction. It literally leaves me cold. I don't like space ship novels. My futuristic fiction needs to have trees. Sorry.

So, then I heard about this book and figured I would check it out at the library and listen to it as an audio book. I wasn't sure. Now, I am so glad I took a chance on it.

What I liked:

The tone of the book. It set a scene and rolled with it. The chapters from each character's point of view were perfect and you completely felt what they were feeling. The angst of being in space, the frustration with the status quo...

The plot. Excellent. I don't do spoilers, so all I will say is what I posted from the Goodreads blurb.

The mystery. I was listening to my IPad every chance I got. Not kidding. I even propped it up in my lap while I was driving because my headphone jack is not working.

So, take a chance on this one. I am so glad I did. Beth Revis did an amazing job and I will be looking to add this book to my library. Love it!

5 out of 5

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.
Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone-one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship-tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.
Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

  1. I love that you want your books to have TREES. LOL. I seriously relate.
