Overall:
This series is an action packed adventure with a battle between humans and vampires running strong. Fans of Buffy will love these books, but they have their own flavor and flair, make no mistake about it. The romantic tension between Chloe and Drew carries you through all the books and I was eagerly awaiting the outcome.
This series reads like a serial novel and I enjoyed it very much. Action at the forefront, characters that kept your interest and a plot that was a great blend of YA, romance, paranormal and vampire hunting.
It is hard to describe the series of events without giving too much away-I hate that in a review-but I think you will fall in love with Drew and Chloe and I am looking forward to more books from this author.

Interview:
1. Writing YA is so much fun. What is your favorite part about it?
My favorite part about writing YA is that I’m writing from a
teenagers point of view and I don’t have to be a grownup when I am writing my
teen characters. It’s nice to not have to worry about the things grownups worry
about and be a kid again for a while.
2. Tell us about the main character in Vampire Hunter's Daughter and what inspired you to write about her.
Chloe Kallistrate is the main character in The Vampire
Hunter’s Daughter is a teen girl who witnesses her mother being murdered by
vampires. She is rescued by vampire hunters and whisked away to their home.
There she learns about her true identity, she is also a vampire hunter.
I love Chloe, she is smart, quirky and an average teenager.
She is learning how to be a vampire hunter, but is still a kid, ya know. I am
really enjoying discovering new things about her as the story goes on.
3. Cheeseburger or sushi?
Mmmm, I love sushi! Especially the rolls, those are my
favorite!
4. Chocolate milk shake or lemon water?
Lemon water.
5. What is the toughest scene you ever had to write?
The toughest scene I ever had to write for The Vampire
Hunter’s Daughter was when I was working on where Chloe and Drew kiss for the
first time. I don’t know why it was hard, but… I just wanted it to be perfect
and worth the wait.
6. Who are some of your favorite YA authors?
Ohhh, there are so many. I think right now, Cassandra Clare
and Julie Kagawa are two of my most favorites. I could probably make you a list
a mile long though.
7. If you were going to give one piece of advice to someone wanting to write YA, what would it be?
I would tell anyone wanting to write YA that they can do it.
Just remember to think like a young person would, not like a grown up writing
about a young person.
8. Do you have a playlist for the series?
Yes, I do! Here is a link to a blog post with the top ten
songs on my play list!
9. What is next on your radar?
Right now I’m working on The Arcadia Falls Chronicles, which
is the continuation of The Vampire Hunter’s Daughter. I am also working on
another series that isn’t paranormal, it’s going to be called The Military Wife
Chronicles, and I’m also working on some childrens stories.
Thanks Jennifer for stopping by the blog today!
Short Excerpt:
I took the first book off the
stack and examined the cover. It was titled Vampires throughout History. The
cover was leather and so old it was stiff and cracked in spots. The pages
showed signs of age too, yellowing and stiff to the touch. There was no table
of contents, so it looked like I was going to have to scan the entire book for
what I was wanting. I flipped the pages carefully, so as not to tear any of
them.
After an hour of scanning and
about half way through the book, I found something referring to vampire
children.
~~~
Although extremely rare, the
natural-born offspring of vampires exist throughout the world. These rare
beings are called the dhampir. Dhampir are usually the product of a vampire and
mortal. The most common of these unions is a male vampire impregnating a mortal
woman. Vampires, both male and female, are seductive in nature and some mortals
came willingly to these unions. However, the majority of dhampir born were
produced through an act of rape.
Solitary by nature, it is
uncommon for a vampire to settle with any one mate for long. The children of
vampires, the dhampir, more often than not exhibit all the characteristics of
their vampire parent. The strength, speed and agility are the usual hereditary
traits that the children develop. They are not always born with these traits
but develop them as they grow into adulthood.
The dhampir are day walkers. Some
of these children are sensitive to the sunlight but will not perish in the
direct rays. Most have no sensitivity at all. Drinking the fresh blood of
mortals is also not usually required of the dhampir; however, some have a
liking for it. Very few actually need it to survive.
Most dhampir are rejected by the
vampire species because of their mortality and weaknesses. Mortals often reject
the dhampir, as well, due to their vampirism, so they frequently remain
outcast.
Dhampir are known for becoming
vampire killers. Their closeness to the vampires and their vampire
characteristics make them powerful vampire hunters. The unique ability to track
and kill vampires is specific to only the dhampir and the mythological race of
vampire hunters.
Historically, dhampir became
vampire hunters as a trade. Towns and villages became plagued by vampires who
were terrorizing their homes and killing their people. The dhampir accepted contracts
in exchange for monetary payment and used their likeness to their vampire
counterparts to exterminate the vampires.
Holy crap, that was a lot to
process. The more I read the passages, the more I understood that my being a
hunter was more than my heritage; it was my history and my future. Everything
about my bloodlines had hunters involved.
“Come on. You said you wanted a
demonstration of the water element.”
“Oh, cool.” I followed him
through the trails until we reached a clearing where a tiny stream ran into a
rather quaint little pond. Oddly enough, the pond wasn‟t frozen. Perhaps it
wasn‟t cold enough.
“This is pretty,” I told him.
He just nodded and said nothing
while he set down his bow and backpack on a large old tree stump. I watched while
he turned toward the pond and narrowed his eyes.
“Look at the water, Chloe, not
at me.”
“Oh.” I changed direction
quickly.
The stream poured out of the
woods and into the pond with gently running ripples of water. I almost didn‟t
notice when the water in the center of the pond began to swirl. The swirling
gradually picked up speed and grew larger until it looked like a whirlpool. But
whirlpools go downward into the water. This whirlpool began to rise up out of
the water. It rose up maybe six feet and then the water spilled over from the
top like a fountain. I glanced at Gavin. He stood stock still, silent, his eyes
focused on the water.
Slowly, the swirling fountain
of water receded back into the pond. I stood there, enthralled by the magic
Gavin could do with his power.
“You‟re amazing,” I whispered
to him.
“No,” he shook his head, “I’m
not amazing. I can just do amazing things.”
“Well… I think you‟re amazing.”
He turned his head and caught
my eyes. “I think you‟re amazing, and you haven‟t done anything like that.”
Oh, little did he know. For
some reason, his comment made me want to show him what I could do, but I didn‟t
even know if I could do it on command. So far it had only happened when
I was angry.
He stared at me so deeply I
felt naked.
“Gavin, what
I just saw was magical. You make magic.”
